The Other Side – Campaign for Migrants Stranded in Mexico
By parishioner Siobhan Bertone

As you might remember, I made two trips to the border in 2019 to help at migrant shelters. One of them was in Tucson, Arizona. Even then, a federal policy called MPP, (also known as “Remain in Mexico” had been instituted and many individuals and families were being turned away from our border, forced to wait in Mexico until their number was called to request asylum.  One might ask, “How have been people on the other side of the border been surviving, especially in these last few years?”

I’d like to introduce to Dora and Pancho, who saw the thousands of asylum seekers being dropped over the border in the towns of Nogales and Sasabe, Mexico. These are places that had no supports in place to provide for the most basic of needs: food, water, clothing, shelter or medical attention. This six and a half minute video tells the story of Dora and Pancho and the work they are doing to care for those who have been pushed even farther to the margins. Dora and Pancho and their respective organizations truly are the hands and feet of Christ. Please take a few minutes to watch and learn about what life is like on “The Other Side.” Special thanks to Shepherdstown Presbyterian for putting this video together, with the blessing of both Pancho and Dora. SPC is still accepting contributions to support the work of both of their organizations.

Watch the video and Meet Dora Rodrigues and Pancho Martin, two humanitarians working in Mexico to help the stranded and abandoned.
